WATCH ME - Zoom Background
In online classes and meetings, we are all confined to a digital box. For me, my digital identity feels like a floating bubble, where I bounce from one virtual breakout room to the next, constantly watching my own screen and others’. I wanted to take this floating feeling and visualize it through 3D rendered bubbles. I also think about how much we potentially give up for surveillance when we have our cameras on. There is this common joke that we all have our own “FBI agent” watching us through our cameras, and I often think about how boring it must be for “my FBI agent” to watch me. So, why not give them something more exciting to look at? With bright and shimmery 3D custom type that bluntly states, “watch me,” my background seeks to playfully attract those “watching” while concealing the actual background environment that I may want to protect. My Zoom background addresses these ideas of digital identity and surveillance online while also displaying an eye-catching and colorful visual for both the user and data-collector.

Demo Reel 2019
saved: a self portrait
This animation combines found media through my "saved" folder on Instagram, as well as animated elements to serve as a distinct kind of "self portrait." The piece demonstrates the hyper-saturation of images on social media while also suggesting the nature of this medium as a curated representation of the self.

nosedive
This piece is a 3D motion graphics video that blends ideas from Jean Baudrillard's concept of the simulacra and "Nosedive," the first episode of the British anthology Black Mirror's third season. The simulacra refers to the idea that the human experience is a simulation of reality. According to Baudrillard, our society has replaced all meaning with symbols and signs in culture and media that construct a perceived reality.
In the world of Black Mirror’s "Nosedive," people are rated on a scale of 1 to 5 based on every interaction they have, which impacts their socioeconomic status. Every small thing each citizen does has an effect on their public rating, which gives them benefits or consequences in society. While this seems like a horrifying dystopia, the world in "Nosedive" acts as simulacra. What are the ways we rate people in our society? How does social media connect to simulacra? Is this world really all that different from the one we live now? These are the questions I explore in this animation.
The Enneagram
This infographic animation depicts the nine personality types of the Enneagram. A combination of 2D animation and 3D rendered motion graphics, the piece educates viewers about nine distinct personality types. Each of us have a basic personality type, one of the nine numbers, that is connected in a variety of ways to the other types. The Enneagram is utilized in therapy and relationship building in order to allow individuals to understand themselves and others at an objective and deeper level.
rollerblade
This piece is a non-narrative animation. Although it does not follow a direct plot, the animation tells a story through its expressive, colorful, and dynamic elements.
