Draw a Card

In this assignment, I created a unique set of playing cards by developing a specific concept, aesthetic, and packaging design. While there was freedom to explore color, type, and form, it was important that several aspects of a standard set of cards were implemented into the design. These elements included four different suits, categorized into two groups (the red and the black suits in a standard deck), the thirteen ranks within the suits, the joker card, and the dual-sided nature of the cards.

Draw a Card combines the logical and cognitive qualities of playing cards with the creative and relaxing nature of coloring. The basic structure of the deck is comprised of fourteen different patterns (including joker) contained within geometric shapes representing each of the ranks. I chose to keep the standard concept and names of each of the four suits, grouping them into warm-toned suits (hearts and diamonds) and cool-toned suits (clubs and spades). The different colored cards allow players to have a unique coloring experience by encouraging them to explore their creativity.
